Dr. Timothy Thurman was voted by his colleagues as Superintendent of the Year in District 2. This nomination makes him a finalist for State Superintendent of the Year.
While under Dr. Thurman's leadership, each school in the Linden City School District gained one letter grade on the state report card. Linden Elementary School's score increased from a 70 (C) to an 83 (B). George P. Austin Junior High School earned a score of a 76 (C), which was higher than the 65 (D) it received the previous year. Linden High School made significant gains as well.
For the first time in Linden City School District's history, each school and the district as a whole received accreditation, which attests to Linden City Schools' dedication to quality, willingness to submit to external evaluation, and desire to provide the highest standard of learning possible for its students.
In addition, Dr. Thurman secured $1.2 million to the remodel project at George P. Austin Jr. High School. He also secured $1.3 million to install new HVAC units in every classroom at Linden Elementary and George P. Austin Junior High Schools. Finally, two new projects are underway as he has also secured $1.2 million to build Linden Elementary School's first multipurpose gym and over $6 million to build a new Linden High School.
We congratulate Dr. Thurman on his nomination as a finalist and wish him the very best of luck on winning this year's Alabama Superintendent of the Year!
