On the advice of Superintendent of Education Dr. Timothy Thurman, the Linden City Board of Education has authorized a $5 million loan for the renovation of Linden High School. The estimated cost of the renovations is $6 million, with safety improvements coming first. Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth's $1.2 million grant, $900,000 in newly imposed taxes, state funding for public school outlays, and a little amount from the General Fund will all go toward paying for the renovations. According to Thurman, since the new one-cent sales tax was implemented in 2022, the district's tax collections have nearly doubled. A $5 million loan with a 30-year term would require payments of roughly $300,000, which is well within the range of what the additional tax revenues can afford.
